- It's time to leave Atlanta and head back home. Six hours in the car is gonna be rough, but Mal is gonna recover so much better at home. My parents help out tremendously, and Kepler is there to offer love and support, too.

Oh god, that gas station fiasco is giving me flashbacks to the petrol shortage and all the panic buying chaos we had over here a little while ago. Glad you guys made it home okay - shoutout to Stephen's parents for going above and beyond to help both of you out, cleaning the house, tidying away and unpacking/arranging stuff to make things as easy as possible for you both. And wow, is it just me or can you tell Mal is feeling in better spirits right away just by being home again? In a comfortable familiar environment, with Keppy for company? Hope the recovery continues as smoothly as possible
I’m sure it’s wonderful to be in the house emotionally, but I believe that they’ve done studies that prove that cat purrs help facilitate healing, so Keppy is doing good work by being a good cat. The whole Georg family is helping Mal!
I can imagine the drive and being worried about any pot hole or bump so Mal doesn't feel any discomfort. I'm glad the trip back went okay
They would really have to worry about that in California. Our roads are crap!

“A Hell-Scaped Future” we live indeed, I work for a small business here in San Francisco. Our business, heavily depends on the use of Tech. Mostly products provided by Square.
There have been times where, crashes, outages, and even glitches, would just overclock our brains. However, when the internet goes out, there is absolutely nothing we can do to provide service.
Personally from me, I comprehend the frustration for customers who heavily rely on contactless payments(like cards and digital wallets), and honestly it’s even more Hell for the ones having to fix it and work with it.
Glad to hear the long drive ended well. Hope Mal gets all the rest she needs.

Man, I can't imagine how tough that trip must have been. Glad you made it back safely. That strawberry cake is pretty similar to something from my childhood too, except we don't use cake, we use a crust (like cheesecake crust) from coconut cookie crumbs and butter

When you were talking about how nice it was to be home, and the help from your parents, I almost started crying. This series of events is nothing short of emotional. Glad to know I wasn't the only one. Hearing how awesome and loving his parents up always makes me a little emotional myself because my mom passed away a couple years ago and I'm not around my family as much right now thanks to living in another state (something I'm trying to rectify) but it's awesome to know that they have the best support system in the world.
That strawberry dessert seems very bizzare to me, but it does sounds like all the components for a strawberry cake/tart so Im sure it’s delicious. How nice of mama Georg to make the childhood-favorite for Mal.

I like those Breakfast burritos - when they're heated up in the oven. Almost any kind of Hot Pocket/Burrito thing done in the microwave is always gonna be crap.

I'm really not trying to insert politics into anything but I really appreciate that Stephen's parents were so kind and considerate enough to wear Masks, I feel like I've seen so much hesitation from older generations of people to wear a mask so this is really nice to see.

Moms (and dads) are the best. I was ill earlier this week and my dad came over to walk my dog and my mom made me comfort food. So glad Mal is being taken care of so well!

Last year I had emergency spinal surgery and had to relearn how to walk, so all the couch time and careful creeping around the house is VERY familiar to me. Empathy! Good vibes!!

Sorry to hear about the gas station debacle. Internet issues causing a derailment of services is unfortunately all too common nowadays.

I'm sorry this feels like it's going to go off the rails but it's 9pm on a Wednesday and I'm watching a man I don't know eat a microwaved burrito and it's making me cry. I don't really know any people outside of my family and my family is kind of toxic, like a lot of families. I um you guys just seem so normal and OK and being able to see into your lives is, I guess, helpful? Seeing people that are OK expressing emotions that don't involve constant bickering and mind games is good. It's good to see that people aren't always like that.
The recovery may be long, but Kepler is there to help :)

Questions for anyone: Are all the gas pumps in the US connected to the internet? I found this very strange, that the gas pumps would not have a manual off the internet override in case of emergency.
The short answer is no (outside of maybe some smaller independent gas stations). As for a longer answer:
I can't say for every gas station but the gas station I work at basically everything in the store is connected by a router that is all connected to a single computer. It helps make sure that data doesn't get lost in multiple places.
Generally the registers are hard wired to the system but given that gas pumps are outside and at a comparably larger distance they would be connected wirelessly
I'm not entirely sure but with the internet out either the pumps wouldn't be able to read cards or wouldn't be able to connect to the system at all. Given that they didn't give them the option to pay for the gas in cash my guess is the latter.

Also, if Mal can’t paint in December, Stephen could paint 😂 I kid, but I think he’d actually do a great job at painting something for MalMakes.

I know how it feels after surgery and it's great that we have cellphones now so you don't have to yell for him. The recovery process will be kind of slow but there will be progress and in due time Mal will be back to herself again. It will all work out fine - it’s just going to require some patience.

Interestingly enough, I had a similar problem getting gas just this week. Went to my usual gas station and no one was there - the lady came out and said the pumps were down. Thankfully there was another gas station literally like not even half a mile down the road that worked.

If you want a truly decent microwave burrito, Tina’s is the brand to get. And that’s only because the red one (spicy chicken, I believe?) is both fairly good (7/10?) and really cheap
